Principle of Air Filtration
The principles used for gas and liquid filtration are completely different because particles behave significantly differently in air and liquids. Liquid filtration mainly relies on "blocking"; effective air filtration depends on three basic filtration principles:
1. "Direct interception" captures larger, heavier particles moving in a straight line;
2. "Inertial impaction" captures slightly smaller, lighter particles that slightly change direction with the airflow;
3. "Brownian motion" removes very small particles due to Brownian motion. Once particles collide with fibers, they are firmly held by van der Waals forces, electrostatic attraction, and vacuum suction. Research shows that for deep-bed air filtration, completely filtering particles of 0.03μm also filters particles as small as 0.01μm.
